Working with Projects

Exporting a 3D Model

You can export a 3D model to one of the following formats:

You can open the Export dialog by using the File > Export > Export to File… menu command, or by clicking the Share toolbar button and choosing the Export to File… option.

Trimble SketchUp

  1. Choose what you want to export.
    To export an object, select it in the project.
    To export a floor, activate it in the Building Properties tab of the Inspector.
    To export the entire project, you don’t have to select anything in particular.
  2. Choose File > Export > Export to File… in the menu.
  3. Set the Export option to 3D Model.
  4. Set the Format option to Trimble SketchUp (*.skp).
  5. Choose what you want to export: an object, floor, or the entire project.
  6. Select the version of the SketchUp format.
  7. To simplify the 3D model before exporting it, select the Merge coplanar triangles check box. To keep all of the details, keep the check box deselected. This option will not affect your project.
  8. Type a file name and click Save.

VRML Version 2.0
X3D

  1. Choose what you want to export.
    To export an object, select it in the project.
    To export a floor, activate it in the Building Properties tab of the Inspector.
    To export the entire project, you don’t have to select anything in particular.
  2. Choose File > Export > Export to File… in the menu.
  3. Set the Export option to 3D Model.
  4. Set the Format option to VRML Version 2.0 (*.wrl) or X3D (*.x3d).
  5. Choose what you want to export: an object, floor, or the entire project.
  6. Type a file name and click Save.

RenderMan

  1. Choose File > Export > Export to File… in the menu.
  2. Set the Export option to 3D Model.
  3. Set the Format option to RenderMan (*.rib).
  4. Set up the size and quality of the image you wish to render.
  5. Specify whether you wish to export the terrain and sky using the Export terrain and Export background check boxes correspondingly.
  6. Type a file name and click Save.

Collada
Collada Zipped

  1. Choose what you want to export.
    To export an object, select it in the project.
    To export a floor, activate it in the Building Properties tab of the Inspector.
    To export the entire project, you don’t have to select anything in particular.
  2. Choose File > Export > Export to File… in the menu.
  3. Set the Export option to 3D Model.
  4. Set the Format option to Collada (*.dae) or Collada Zipped (*.zae or *.zip).
  5. Choose what you want to export: an object, floor, or the entire project.
  6. Set up the export options.
    Up Axis defines the name of the vertical axis in the output file. If you don't know the requirements of the software you will use to open the exported model, keep the default state.
    Specify whether you wish to export the light sources, predefined and user cameras using the corresponding check boxes.
    Select Fix texture coordinate, if the textures with applied transformations look incorrect in the software used to open the exported model.
    Select Copy texture images to export all of the textures used in your 3D model to a dedicated folder. Without the original textures, the model may look different when you open it in another software.
    Relative path to textures lets you choose either a relative or absolute path to the folder with exported textures created by activating Copy texture images. What you should specify depends on the software you will use to work with the exported model.
  7. Type a file name and click Save.

Autodesk FBX
Wavefront OBJ

  1. Choose what you want to export.
    To export an object, select it in the project.
    To export a floor, activate it in the Building Properties tab of the Inspector.
    To export the entire project, you don’t have to select anything in particular.
  2. Choose File > Export > Export to File… in the menu.
  3. Set the Export option to 3D Model.
  4. Set the Format option to Autodesk FBX (*.fbx) or Wavefront (*.obj).
  5. Choose what you want to export: an object, floor, or the entire project.
  6. Choose whether you want to export the terrain using the Export terrain check box.
  7. Type a file name and click Save.

SceneKit Scene Document
Compressed SceneKit Scene Document

  1. Choose what you want to export.
    To export an object, select it in the project.
    To export a floor, activate it in the Building Properties tab of the Inspector.
    To export the entire project, you don’t have to select anything in particular.
  2. Choose File > Export > Export to File… in the menu.
  3. Set the Export option to 3D Model.
  4. Set the Format option to SceneKit Scene Document (*.scn) or Compressed SceneKit Scene Document (*.scnz).
  5. Choose what you want to export: an object, floor, or the entire project.
  6. Choose whether you want to export furniture, terrain and light sources using the corresponding check boxes.
  7. Type a file name and click Save.

Universal Scene Description

  1. Choose what you want to export.
    To export an object, select it in the project.
    To export a floor, activate it in the Building Properties tab of the Inspector.
    To export the entire project, you don’t have to select anything in particular.
  2. Choose File > Export > Export to File… in the menu.
  3. Set the Export option to 3D Model.
  4. Set the Format option to Universal Scene Description (*.usdz).
  5. Choose what you want to export: an object, floor, or the entire project.
  6. Choose whether you want to export furniture, terrain and light sources using the corresponding check boxes.
  7. Type a file name and click Save.

Radeon Pro Render

  1. Choose what you want to export.
    To export an object, select it in the project.
    To export a floor, activate it in the Building Properties tab of the Inspector.
    To export the entire project, you don’t have to select anything in particular.
  2. Choose File > Export > Render with Radeon ProRender… in the menu.
  3. Set the Export option to 3D Model.
  4. Set the Format option to Radeon Pro Render (*.rpr) or (*.zip).
  5. Choose what you want to export: an object, floor, or the entire project.
  6. Type a file name and click Save.

glTF

  1. Choose what you want to export.
    To export an object, select it in the project.
    To export a floor, activate it in the Building Properties tab of the Inspector.
    To export the entire project, you don’t have to select anything in particular.
  2. Choose File > Export > Export to File… in the menu.
  3. Set the Export option to 3D Model.
  4. Set the Format option to glTF Text File Format (*.gltf) or glTF Binary File Format (*.glb).
  5. Choose what you want to export: an object, floor, or the entire project.
  6. Choose whether you want to export cameras, terrain and light sources using the corresponding check boxes. Activate the Export environment panorama option to add the background panorama when you export the project.
  7. Type a file name and click Save.
